Objective: To construct a new model of scientific research ability training for nursing staff and explore its effectiveness. Methods: Based on the framework of action research method, through the spiral circulation of finding problems, analyzing problems, forming plans, implementing plans, effect evaluation, reflection and revision plans, a new model of scientific research ability training for nursing staff was established. The first cycle was explored in small class system, the second cycle was verified in large class system. The scientific research ability of 100 nurses before and after the training was evaluate by the Koch model. Results: The satisfaction with training content, training time arrangement, training materials and training methods was higher than 90%. The total score of self-evaluation of nursing research ability after training was higher than those before the training ( P<0.05), and the number of subjects applied for and the number of scientific research projects approved were higher than before the training ( P<0.05). Conclusion: The new model of scientific research ability training for nursing staff based on action research can improve their satisfaction and ability.
