Abstract: Objective: To explore the effect of health education based on simulative experience on disease cognition and complications in diabetic. Methods: 114 outpatients with diabetes mellitus from Feb. 2013 to Jun. 2016 were selected as study subjects and were randomized into two groups by the random number table method. The control group was given routine health education, while the observation group was given simulative experience. Fasting blood glucose (FPG), postprandial 2h plasma glucose (2hPG), glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), scores of summary of diabetes self-care activities (SDSCA) and incidence rate of complications were compared between the two groups before intervention and at the end of follow-up. Results: There were no significant differences in FPG, 2hPG, HbA1c and SDSCA scores between the two groups before intervention(P>0.05); after intervention, FPG, 2hPG and HbA1c in the observation group were lower than those in the group before intervention and those in control group at the end of follow-up (P<0.05). SDSCA score was higher than that in the group before intervention and that in the control group at the end of follow-up (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of complications between the two groups (P>0.05); the total incidence rate of complications in observation group was lower than that in control group. Conclusion: Simulative experience is beneficial to strengthen the patient’s awareness of the disease and feelings to complications, and ultimately strengthen the self-management so as to effectively control the blood glucose level and reduce the risk of complications. It is worthy of popularization and application.
