Emotional response of emergency department nurses to participating extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation: a qualitative study

Abstract: Objective: To explore the emotional responses of emergency department (ED) nurses to participating extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR). Methods: Using a phenomenological qualitative research approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 ED nurses experienced in adult ECPR. The interview data were analyzed using Colaizzi′s seven-step method to extract themes and sub-themes. Results: Four primary themes and ten sub-themes were identified including a strong need and expectation for learning about ECPR, a positive attitude and willingness to participate in and implement ECPR, a clear vision for the future development of ECPR and profound emotional experiences related to ECPR. Conclusion: ED nurses have strong learning needs, positive attitudes, and clear suggestions regarding ECPR, along with profound emotional experiences. Enhancing training and education on ECPR-related knowledge, skills, and protocols is crucial for improving ED nurses′ ability and confidence in participating in ECPR.

摘要: 目的:探讨急诊科护士参与体外心肺复苏(Extracorporeal Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation,ECPR)的情感反应。方法:采用质性研究的现象学方法,对12名具备成人ECPR救治经验的急诊科护士进行半结构化访谈,运用Colaizzi七步法分析访谈数据。结果:共提取4个一级主题和10个二级主题,分别为对ECPR的学习需求和期待强烈、对参与和实施ECPR有积极的态度和意愿、对ECPR未来发展有明确的愿景、对ECPR有深刻的情感体验。结论:急诊科护士对ECPR的学习需求强烈、态度积极、建议明确,情感体验深刻。加强ECPR相关知识、技能和规范的培训教育,对于提升其参与ECPR的能力和信心具有重要意义。
