Abstract: Objective: To analyze the mediating effect of self-efficacy between fear of recurrence and posttraumatic growth (PTG) in breast cancer patients after surgery. Methods: A total of 196 postoperative patients with breast cancer admitted to our hospital were collected, using General Self-Efficacy Scale(GSES), Fear of Progression Questionnaire-Short Form(FoP-Q-SF) and Posttraumatic Growth Inventory(PTGI) from January 2019 to January 2024. The mediating effect of self-efficacy between fear of recurrence and PTG in breast cancer patients after surgery was analyzed by SPSS Process Model 4 and bootstrap analysis. Results: Among 196 patients with breast cancer after surgery, the GSES score was (21.74±5.55) points, the FoP-Q-SF score was (25.69 ± 6.12) points, and the PTGI score was (59.93 ± 10.29) points. Fear of recurrence was negatively correlated with self-efficacy (r=-0.894) and negatively correlated with PTG (r=-0.814), while self-efficacy was positively correlated with PTG (r=0.830) (all P<0.05). Self-efficacy plays a partial mediating role between fear of recurrence and PTG in postoperative patients with breast cancer, with a mediating effect value was -0.764, accounting for 55.84% of the total effect. Conclusion: The fear of recurrence in breast cancer patients after surgery can directly predict PTG, and can also indirectly predict PTG through self-efficacy.
