Abstract: Objective: To understand the feelings and experiences of specialized palliative care nurses in Tianjin during the implementation of palliative care, and to provide reference for effectively playing the function of nursing in palliative care service as well as promoting and optimizing the sustainable development of palliative care. Methods: A semi-structured interview was conducted among 13 specialized palliative care nurses in Tianjin using phenomenological research method, and the data were analyzed by content analysis method. Results: A total of 3 themes and 10 sub-themes were extracted, including personal growth and benefit for specialized palliative care nurses (greater emphasis on communication with patients, enhanced humanistic care abilities, improved emotional adjustment abilities, strengthened palliative care concepts and heightened professional value), barriers to the implementation of palliative care services (low awareness of palliative care, and insufficient human resources), and factors promoting sustainable development of palliative care (cultivating palliative care concepts among medical staff, improving palliative care team building, and intensifying public awareness campaigns). Conclusion: After systematic training and palliative care practice, the specialized palliative care nurses have achieved comprehensive enhancement and recognized their professional value. Relevant departments should continuously improve the construction of palliative care service system, meet the needs of sustainable development of palliative care, and attract more nurses to participate in the practice of palliative care service.
